This movie went completely over my head. I kept thinking he was going to wake up and it was going to all be just a dream. Was Gil just drunk, imagining that he was going back into time? I don't get it. :mindblown:

It was a metaphor about creating your own happiness and not living your life by the status quo. He had a so called ' good life ' yet he was unhappy. His true passion, writing and the romantics of Paris was his true passion.

I think I got that part, especially once he realized how different he and his wife were so different but I'm still having a hard time following if he was just imagining going back to the 1920s or not. Was he just drunk and dreaming or what? :mindblown:

He was imagining it as it was his ideal life, kind of his mind's way to escape to an era in which he would have lived.

I got how impressed and in awe he was of the 1920s but it was still hard tell if he was just drunk and imagining going back to another era or what. Cause I also remember when he took his girlfriend to the spot where he got transported back to the 20's but when she was with him nothing happened. Although it hadn't turned 12:00 am and the bell hadn't rung yet. But he also wasn't drunk that night like he was the night before. So maybe it was all just his imagination?

But and if he was just imagining how did that private investigator who his fiancee's dad hired to watch him get lost and wind up in another era. Cause they showed the private investigator getting chased by knights and guards back in like castles. How or did Gil imagine that because I remember the dad telling her in front of Gil and her mother.

I don't get it! :mindblown:

He imagined that too. The part about Knights. it went in and out of reality. It was also typical Woody Allen dogma in the film as well. Good stuff! I loved the movie.

I watched it and while it was a good movie I couldn't understand if he was dreaming or if him going back in time actually happened too, so I know where you are coming from with this thread.

Oh ok, I see. Thanks. Yeah, this was the first film by Woody Allen I've ever seen.

Yeah, because the lines were so blurry. Usually with a movie there's some line draw and after a while you can tell what's real and what's not.

He took some serious ETHER in that flick...things kept adapting and changing and he wanted one standstill pace. A lost soul basically.
