Most of them was. Sometimes I believe the Civil right era was more for their personal gain then for us.

Underrated observation. Gotta glass of brown right now, and read your post and took a deep sigh. One cant help but wonder at times considering the higher tax bracket they've maintained for decades. Still, the same ones we might question didnt have to put their careers on the line when taking a stand for all of our behalfs. I think a good contrast to consider is Michael Jordan who has notoriously avoided adressing any social injustice. As Kareem said, Jordan chose "commerce over conscience." Jordan didnt stand to lose anything remotely as much as entertainers from Belafonte's time stood to for taking a stand. Belafonte to this day is still being an uppity negro.
That said, even if entertainers such as Belafonte had selfish and ulterior motives, the residual effects benefited us enough where I think its fair to turn a blind eye to their flaws. Besides, there is not one man, woman, or child, who any of us or in hindsight history might admire, that isnt deeply flawed in some way, shape, or form. You take any public figure, from sports, to politics, to social activism, and put them under a powerful enough microscope, and I guarantee we'll find something about them that rubs either we or somebody we identify with, the wrong way.
All truths. But sometimes I can't help but wonder was our interest ever at heart or was we used in the same way politician use us by our own. Like if they could accomplish their motives without us would they. Its like you preach this speech with such powerful words, then you take a look, and you start to think well did they really believe what they say or was it a ploy to get what they really wanted in the end. Its like asking someone to get this demon off your back while your cradling the product of said demonAll truths.
