After rewatching The Wire, I think it's safe to say Stringer>Avon.

I think people overrate Marlo somewhat. Yeah he bullied his way to the top when there was a power vacuum and then took advantage of Joe but people like him never last, even without the police. You have to remember the rest of the Bmore drug crews were also ran by killers and dangerous people. Yes they were scared of Marlo but gangsters don't react to fear the way your average Joe citizen does. They don't just curl up in the fetal position and surrender. Instead they start plotting your murder.

Marlo might have scared them for a while and he might have used the leverage he had with the connect for a while but eventually they all would have turned against him
because he was a straight bully and he didn't respect any rules.

Avon was also the top dog but unlike Marlo he had respect for the game and the other players.

Since someone brought up the mob, the exact same thing happened in real life with Carmine "Lilo" Galante. He was this vicious psychopatic killer that had everybody scared for a while and was trying to bully the other bosses out of the heroin market. So they teamed up and started scheming behind his back and eventually the killed him.

Marlo was a black Mad Dog Coll. Dude had the entire mob shook due to how brutal and violent he was. Crazy how most of these nikkas we think were tough were really just psychos. Eventually the mob got tired of him and lit his ass up 25 times. Same thing would’ve happened to Marlo eventually.

Yup. Breanna told Namond and Delonda that the money had dried up. And this was the baby mama and eldest son of Avons right hand man. Avon didn't have enough bread to take care of dudes family. The man that refused to snitch and ttook all of those murders for him. This might be why Wee Bay linked up with Chris while in prison...no evidence for that but I could speculate that it was to make money.

Avon might have put his best foot forward while he met with Marlo to appear like he was living the life, but he and Breanna needed that money they got from Marlo.

And I get the point being made about Avon living better than the average prisoner but calling it a vacation home is a little much. Eating stale ass Popeyes and watching dusty flicks on DVD cuz you're surrounded by nikkas isn't exactly a good time.
Avon and Marlo made a truce breh, they would be partners once Avon got out, westside sticking with Westside....once Marlo responded with a 100k Marlo knew Avon jail time going forward was minimal, Avon then reassured Marlo it's no beef, I'm giving u the keys, but prop Joe is true enemy....

I think people keep over looking season 2 and the Greeks. The Greeks ran all of it. From the prostitution and strippers, to the drugs and guns. They did it all without bragging or boasting. They made their money and stayed off the radar. That old fukk was the King...

If Avon had let Omar breath for a while like Stringer suggested he would have been saved a lot of trouble down the road. Avon's idea of torturing Brandon and "Putting him on display" was stupid in hindsight and incurred the wrath of Omar. No need for all that extra nonsense just kill him and chalk it up to the game.

Was killing D'Angelo heartless? Yes, but it had to be done. We saw how easily D folded when the pressure got to him. He clearly wasn't cut out for the gangster life style and once he started to feel them years he would have flipped. Even Avon realized it had to be done.

The Co-Op was a great idea that brought in more money and less attention from the cops. Instead of beefing over corners and killing each other over grievances, the king-pins sat together and aired out concerns. Everything was all good until Avon started beefing with some snot nose kid over territory that they didn't even need. Look, I like Avon but he just couldn't see the big picture. Like Stringer said "They don't want to see you get organized".

Another thing I think people seem to forget is that the Co-op lived on even after Stringer died.

Overall, I think both had their pros and cons and their downfall was ultimately not being able to compromise

EDIT:I thought someone bumped it. My bad! :snoop:
