Nobody ever said he shot himself while he was alive to object that theory. They waited until he died to start saying that shyt. I'm not a hip hop historian, I remember this shyt when he was alive. I can't say for sure but it's the most likely scenario. You pull your gun to fast and shoot yourself, it's common in high-pressure situations and it's likely what sparked the gunman (who were feeling some degree of nervousness) to fire on him.
