after updating your android can you go back?

this my first android yall

when i find something i like i keep it. i am opposed to change. i dont change it until it breaks and cant be fixed

so i got gingerbread now and they made ice cream available for my phone. im seeing pics and dont know if i like it, so if i update it, can i go back?

Gingerbread is an old os. Sure it's nice but the natural progression of the android OS have been outstanding to date.

I do think that once you flash ICS that you will like it, sure it will be new and take some getting used to but overall the improvements and the look of that OS will keep you there.

If you were to want to switch back you would need to find the stock image for your particular handset from either the manufacturer website or from a place such as XDA.

If you did want to roll back to GB I would look into running a custom GB ROM that way you can get better performance and form function out of your phone.
