Chappelle going conservative isn't really the issue. My issue with him is that he's turning his stand-up routines into political debates/discussion. That's not what people are looking for in comedy. He's basically rightwing Hannah Gadsby:

Who has made you the arbiter of what people want in comedy? Socio-political discussion may not be for you but its certainly something I look for. The Rotten Tomatoes audience review for "The Closer" is at 95 percent and he's on another succesful tour. Someone's checking for him.

From what I heard he struggles seriously with a chain smoking and binge drinking habit. I heard on a podcast with a comedian speaking on him who said he basically gets black out drunk before and after his shows. This probably won't end well for him in the future, but we'll see.
