This LL discussion of the past few days has been interesting. Alot have labeled him as having a dated style and being out of place in today's Hip-Hop landscape. A few years ago, Jay-Z got criticized for not making "grown man music" on MCHG and sounding lyrically challenged compared to his old work

Here are a few albums of the past couple of years from rappers who are 40 plus that I think actually worked. The artists managed to make fresh sounding music without sounding washed or pandering to a younger audience.

I actually loved MCHG
it'll be interesting to see what artists like Ross, 2 Chainz, Juicy J etc. do in a few years when they reach that age :lupe:
I think Ross gonna be ok, his last two projects he seems to be on his pro black is, which is dope.

I think Ross gon age gracefully, he already 40 lol. As far as 2 Chainz & Juicy....

Ross will be fine I think. A lot of his music is already "grown" aside from the BMF remakes.

Might get ugly for some of the others though :trash: :flabbynsick:

Jay wasn't criticized because of subject matter, it just wasn't that great. Neither were most of those albums you listed honestly. I don't play any of them (MCHG included) anymore.

I dont see anyone can listen to Compton outside of the "New Dr. Dre" Grace period (1 week)

shyt was boring as hell. A bunch of cats trying to get their lyrical, miracle, spiritual shyt on. I can't wait until that era of "lyricism" ends.
It is dead on a mainstream, general consensus of hiphop fans level.

But, I dont think it will ever die on message boards.

i was thinking of this thread but all i could think of would be juvi and mystikal

i mean they perform all they old shyt at shows and it sells out i'm ready for this mixtape with juvi wayne and mannie on the boards though

i may be wrong but jay needs another reasonable doubt sounding cd at this point

side note i'd really love to hear a clean and sober dmx cd
