I might have a little more sympathy for her now.

My biological sister has bi-polar disorder. She can be doing perfectly fine, but let her hit a real manic phase and she'll go off her meds and run around on her husband with some guy who works for him, or go off half-cocked and wind up a week later in Oklahoma at the casino for no discernible reason. It's like all her impulse control goes right out the window.
I used to work with a guy that was trying to imply that bipolar disorder doesn't exist. I was pretty close to uppercutting him.

:salute:for most of the sentiments in this thread.

I'd like to see the same kind of respect here for people who legit deal with autism, either themselves or in their families. That word is tossed around here like it's a joke.
Or A.D.D. That's a term that's insanely overused and overprescribed. 7 year old kids on medication makes me sick. fukk the doctors and the parents as well.

100% agreed, my least favorite thing about tsc. I do a lot of work for the intellectually and developmentally disabled community. It's a shame almost nobody here respects them.

More than 6 million people have it. About 3% of the US population. People don't usually rush to talk about it, but I guarantee you know at least one person that has it. Probably a few.
I doubt that, but that probably has more to do with the amount of people I know, lol.

This is supposed to be a serious discussion on mental illness. Not a thread for corny jokes and stupid theories.

I take this thread serious, at least more so than the people whose first and only reaction were that she is probably a freak. :yeshrug:

didn't she have a jealous fit a few years ago because CM punk used to date some tv person and she acted in an embarrasing fashion at like NBC or something.

Yeah that's definitely a sign bi-polar people will make a scene regardless of any logic

Wish I got in this thread earlier because I could talk about mental illness all day long. I was in a pysch ward for 6 weeks when I was 19 - had a nervous breakdown and schizophrenic episode

I think many people are "bipolar" to an extent. I sure am. But generally I don't consider it a bad thing - the trick is accepting it, navigating it, and getting out of your own head whenever possible. Which is basically the crux of what AJ is saying.

I also think it's overdiagnosed and usually treated backwards. A healthy diet, meditation, yoga, and plant medicine can really help a bipolar person stay grounded. RX drugs do the opposite. My 2 cents, having been through the wringer.
