During a recent appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, AJ Styles stated that he’s already made more money this year working the independent scene and with NJPW than he would have for the entire year of 2014 under the new deal TNA offered him. TNA reportedly offered Styles a deal that could have earned him upwards of $200,000. Styles also noted that by the end of the year, he could do as well as he did in 2013 with TNA, Styles reportedly made $350,000 that year.

Since Styles is now working the independent scene and NJPW, they pay for his hotel rooms and travel expenses. He is also able to control his merchandise sales. TNA did not cover road expenses, and would have only gotten a percentage of merchandise sales.

He's comparing it to the contract they offered him, not the older ones.
Exactly, TNA is slashing six figures off of all of the top talents contracts, AJ gave them a nah and is making more money, which isn't surprising.

I don't think a lot of dudes really grasp that NJPW is legit the second biggest company in the world. They break bread over there. Look at how massive a contract they had to offer Albert to come back over. AJ is catching some yen over there, and he's not even making as much as he could as he's not working a full schedule. Doesn't work the house shows, just the PPVs and this month the G1.

I'd imagine he's working fewer dates than he would be for TNA anyway.

low key going ROH / NJPW / Dragongate / DGUSA is 100x better way to learn the business and sharpen your teeth than TNA, easily.

Not only that, but you won't have that TNA stench attached to your career to the degree that no amount of coke could convince Vince to hire you. (talking moreso about people starting there and somewhat establishing themselves there).

He hired Gail Kim, R-Truth, Xavier Woods and rehired Christian, Jeff Hardy, etc.

You mustve missed my.comments in the parantheses. Truth was in wcw and wwf before tna, kim was in the e before tna, christian and hardy are obvious. Xavier was the only one out of those you could say was established a bit in tna before the E, but even he was in an NWA promotion under former wwe employers and got over..and when was in tna he was paired with truth.

I wonder how many dates he has to work in comparison though?

Cuz the thing that seems to get lost a lot in the pay convo is how often they work.

I mean yes I get it's hilarious when you hear a TNA wrestler gets let's say $95k a year in comparison to the average E guy who allegedly makes $2 million just to be in backstage segments and randomly seen on the leases shows and never sees a ppv.

But when you hear that E guy works 340 days a year for that check and the TNA guy works say 80 days for that $90k (do to double triple tapings and and limited travel) it really puts things in perspective.

And not cats like Angle and Sting and etc were making $200k+ just for maybe 50 days or less of work!

That's crazy

Sting and Angle were making a million a year and they damn sure werent paying for travel and hotels. TNA just didn't see Styles as valuable. Simple as that. He wasn't no huge draw. It's no big deal.
