Alabama is locally known to be one of the most corrupt governments in the US. Like on paper officially.

Alabama is the type of state where developing world and despotic government tactics are used like ballot stuffing. I remember watchin a documentary about a FBI officer who handled government corruption and he said the consensus is that Alabama had the reputation as being the most corrupt, though he was talking in the context of the 70-90s and Rhode Island around that time was running a close second.
