I have a friend that’s considering taking a job there. Can any one drop some info about the quality of life there and where is a good spot to live in the Albany area ?

My brother goes to UAlbany, the city as a whole is from my trips there and his experience the past 3 years.

It's like this, you have the west side around the campus that's basically nothing but suburbs and chain restaurants like McDonalds, Applebees. And on the east side you have downtown, but even there's no real scene for young people there.

And right next to downtown is the hood.

There's no nightlife whatsoever. It is a college town that just happens to be New York's capital.
