You are correct about the Black Milk/Dilla shyt and moving out west but you made it seem like it was only a backpacker issue when in fact there have been countless street nikkas like Tone Tone that tried to move down to Atlanta to create a bigger buzz for himself(shyt always fails). The fact is that there isn't one nikka that made it out this city with the D behind them regardless if their a backpack/hispter nikka or on some thug shyt. You sayin' Jeezy get more love in the D than Danny is a fact, but nikka Jeezy gets more love here than ANY Detroit dude .Detroit nikkas don't fukk with each other, don't got shyt to do with the music
Couldn't have said it better, my nikka. Has nothing to do with "backpack" or "street/hood" rap. If you local it's gonna be hard to break out here organically. Radio doesn't really play local artist and the city is so broken up where one side/hood won't really support another side/hood, just on some hood beef/hating type shyt. At best you'll get some heavy strip/local club spins, but it's hard to get much further than that. nikkas who circumvent the local scene are the ones who are actually doing the smart thing. You got a better chance of somebody else recognizing your talent and trying to give you a push, and after you getting a little buzz then the local scene starts to take a little notice. I don't think you can compare it to any other region.
And ftr Detroit hoods encompass a lot of different type of nikkas. It's hard to say the "hood" don't fukk with a specific type of artist cause there ain't a specific type of hood nikka. If you talking posting up on the Isle, hitting the strip club every weekend type of nikka, then that's your Doughboy Cashout type nikka. Of course that's not all that listen to that type of shyt, just like it's not only nerds and backpackers that checkout our Royce or Danny.
