Velveteen Dream made him look better than what he was. Aleister Black has to work with wild characters and super charismatic people that can carry all the plot of the feud. Bobby Lashley and Lana are not that.

Black along with Ricochet made him look better than what he is in the ring too. I think that storyline helped them both.

To be fair though, how many times has Bobby Lashley even been pinned on camera in the last year?

If memory serves, it's pretty rare. Last time I recall it happening was when he lost to Ricochet prior to that last SaudiMania.

He usually goes over everyone else or is made to look strong (No contest with Braun).

In fact, did Rusev ever win during their feud over Lana?

It’s probably more the optics than anything. Black, despite both having a character and no character at all somehow, is protected to the point where he’s only legit lost TWICE since coming to the main roster. His finisher actually ends matches, and they treat him like a big deal without actually expounding on WHY he’s a big deal.

Lashley... gets none of that, outside of the Rusev feud and even then it comes off as Cokeboy’s deranged cuck fantasies coming to life.

AJ last month, & Seth and his Disciples during the winter/fall

Outside of those two (and he got his win back over AJ and possibly Seth at some point), dude hasn’t been pinned or subbed since he came up last April. They were playing it up HEAVILY during both the matches with Lashley and Crews
