I don’t follow hockey closely at all but i was in the gym this morning and saw on the ticker he was 20 away :gladbron:

Growing up I always heard how the goals
Record would never be broken. Crazy to see how consistent Ovechkin has been.

A wild stat I saw tho: his career season high (65) would only rank as Gretzky’s 5th highest season high 🤯

That points record is the one that’s truly untouchable

Outside of most rebounds all time, this is the one I don’t think anyone will ever get close to. We’ve got a better chance of seeing someone hit 763 homers or 1407 stolen bases than breaking Gretzky’s record for assists or points.

How do you feel about Stockton's assists and steal record? Jerry Rice's reception/yardage and td record? Emmitt Smiths rushing yardage and rushing td total?

Correct, but there’s one massive difference. People will mention better overall equipment today for players, but look at the difference below. One picture is what Gretzky was going against and one is what GOATvechkin was going against.

Comparing a scarecrow to the Terminator.

Stockton’s assists record may as well be in iron but given that piece about home score keepers cooking the books for MJ in the 80’s it wouldn’t shock me if Stockton got the same treatment. Larry Fitzgerald retired about 120 catches short of rice. His yards and touchdowns record are untouchable. Same probably goes for Emmitt with rushing yards, but I think Derrick Henry has a shot at the touchdowns record as long as he takes care of himself and stays with the ravens since Lamar being in the backfield opens up so many running lanes for him.

No one will ever surpass 4,255 hits, either. That is very safe to say.
