In America (largely due to GOP propaganda), socialist has been perverted to mean "higher taxes, big government, more spending".

Not really. "actual" socialism is the public (usually through the government but not necessarily) controlling the means of production rather than them being in private hands.

It doesn't imply anything about people not working or wages being flat, though the public could choose towards that.

There was a poster here who claimed that Trump and AOC were the same cause they both use social media, when I asked him what was the same about how they used it all he could say was, "Well, they both use it, that's enough!"

So far, most of them have kept their criticism of Ocasio-Cortez private, fearful she’ll sic her massive following on them by firing off a tweet. But a few are engaging with her in the hopes she’ll opt for a different M.O., especially when it comes to trying to take out Democrats in primaries.

"“Long story short, I need you to run for office,” she told progressive activists on the call. “That's really what we need to do to save this country.”

Comments like that got Ocasio-Cortez off on the wrong foot with her colleagues, to say the least.

Two House Democratic sources compared her use of Twitter to Donald Trump’s. Just as congressional Republicans constantly withhold criticism of the president out of fear he’ll unleash a tweet at them, some Democrats have done the same with Ocasio-Cortez.

I love how much she's exposing how trash a lot of the party is. Being a woman of color really is her biggest strength and shield cuz it completely fukks up the bullshyt the centrist folks would have tried and/or have already tried. Also part of why she's popular as well.
