We answered your dating app questions

Big data collecting your info from these dating sites too. :heh:
While you’re out mining dating apps for love this Valentine’s Day, these platforms are doing the same to your data. That’s because these apps and sites’ business models rely on the information you provide, to determine things like the matches they suggest and the ads they show you as you swipe.

But in a sea of strangers’ profile pictures, it can be hard to tell how, exactly, services like Tinder and OkCupid choose the suggested matches for you that they do. After all, the algorithms that power these platforms are proprietary, and companies have no interest in dishing out intimate details about how they work, neither to us nor their competitors.

I have resorted to surfing the internet in incognito to avoid algorithms :comeon:

It will only get deeper intwined into our lives.

AI, ML, will contribute to more of life's choices. But it is not always a bad thing e.g. a supermarket in a black dominated area will have more food stuff catered to black people based on the purchasing algorithms of city data and spending habits. Also in medicine, the combination of sequencing, and AI/ML to better understand things like cancer will benefit us all

Read an article
About this a while back and it talked about ever since the mid 2000s everything seems frozen . Pointed out in the mid 2000s is when a lot of the data driven algo companies popped up (Twitter,FB,YouTube,Wiki). Also that’s when superhero movies just began to be rolled out

Mentioned how there used to be wild swings in culture from decade to decade and since around 08 we haven’t seen that . Fashion has been stuck compared to the shifts of previous decades .Music has definitely been stuck . Mentioned that part of that reason hip hop has risen and rock has died is that data showed labels that white ppl would be far more likely to listen to rap than black/Hispanic people would listen to rock so they pushed rap to pop music status to get the $$.

Basically said culture is curated like a playlist now :yeshrug:
