R&B, Soul, etc. has been dying for years though IMO. I don't get the same feeling with artists of this generation, and even the previous during the 90's and late 80's as I did with Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, etc. To me, cats like Usher never really did do R/B, they were always pop artists. Alicia Keys was never really R/B/Soul to me. She was always more HipHop than anything. I don't care how many records she sold, same with Usher or anyone else you mention that was popular for the past couple decades. That sh!t never compared to what was present during the late 60s to early 80's. It's been dying for the past twenty years. So it goes.

Oh no, weee black people betta run for the hills. Here come the majestick sounding white gurl who cumin to steel our 'culcha' just like when this angal came thru fiftiin year ago

How will we sufive??:rudy:

Aguilera was poppin' when black artists still had a major presence, and were dominating RnB. Ive seen a lot of Robin Thicke, Timberlake, Adele, Grande, Beiber, etc recently...where are the black RnB artists?

Whew....just caught myself for a second. Of course you're right ---- we're just paranoid. Its not like the mainstream culture as a whole, has ever held negative views on black people and attempted to push us to the margins, in favor of whites, every chance they've gotten.

It's always been this way. White people will do our music and because they have the right skintone, they'll sell 20, 30 million records (off one album) when Beyonce can't even sell that much. And she's the most successful black singer this generation has to offer. Imagine how wide the disparity is when you go down a few notches.

The top of the City
These are all symptoms of consolidation in the media/entertainment industries. When the Internet came thru and crushed the buildings, it destabilized all content industries, which just pushed forward the trend of the prominent companies in all media merging and/or being bought up. In television, Hollywood, music, publishing, radio and live events there now exists 1-3 huge companies that own the production and distribution channels and totally dominate the entire medium. In every medium, all of these mega companies rely on Blockbuster products as the life blood of their businesses, indeed they can't really survive without them due to their massive sizes. So in that environment, a product can't really be viable unless it has blockbuster potential. Hence, in music, we see acts that are most palatable to the masses getting the biggest looks, so an Ariana Grande will always be an infinitely more valuable property than a black female artist with equal talent.

As long as big business dominates and people are uneducated on the market forces that create the media environment we see, they will just consume the content that is most conveniently available to them.

sorry but Ariana's buzz will die down eventually. Her music is basic and forgettable plus her acting career is mediocre kiddie stuff.
Unless she pulls a Miley Cyrus she won't last long.

The ability to sing great is one thing and not exclusive to any one ethnicity but R&B is clearly a Black artform.

so R&B should be segregated is what you're telling me. It's blacks only..

ya'll be wildin.

I wonder what this site would have looked like back when Brent Barry won the dunk contest

You ever see her following on social media? It's ridiculous. I think Bieber, Grande and One Direction will always have a place in music just because their fans are psychos.

Ariana Grande literally REPLIES TO PEOPLE and gets more RTs than damn near anyone else in the world.

no their fans are going to grow up and forget about them :heh:
a following on social media doesn't mean anything.
Ariana doesn't have staying power.
One direction will suffer the same fate as most other boy bands.
Bieber... who knows.
