Just finished a second viewing - there’s a lot of potential with the back story but it depends on what threads they decide to follow through on:
1.The five corporations running the globe - it was mentioned that Weyland-Yutani had control of the Americas - Prodigy has Asia from the looks of it (Weyland-Yutani entering New Siam to claim the ship would be taken as a hostile act) so it will be interesting to see what territories the other companies control (i.e who controls Europe, Africa, etc). Almost sets up a GOT scenario in regards to a global race for intelligence and immortality, similar to what we have now with the US and China for AI.
2. Also established that these same companies control certain planets and moons in the Solar System so there’s scope to explore the off-world themes such as terraforming and colonising other planets.
3. You can see the seeds of each of the Lost Boys having their own identity (i.e the scientist breh) so will be interesting to see how this develops as the series goes on, especially as the hybrid bodies inhabit super computers.
4. Wendy tuning into a frequency where she can hear the Aliens - opens up the possibility that she’ll be able to speak to and control them further down the line
They’ve set up enough here to make the story compelling enough beyond the Xenomorph and alien aspect of this - just hoping that s1 is not 7 to 8 episodes of them following Wendy around the ship looking for her brother.
And if you don’t get why Tool’s music is being featured, do yourself a favor and dig into their catalog.
My white college roommate was a huge fan, so I became very familiar with their music and horror themed videos.
I think the Xeno needs to be more wet/greasy looking
I like this so far, but my biggest complaint is finny enough the Xeno itself. It looks like a dude in a rubber suit. I'm not saying they shouldn't show it, either. I don't know. It looks super plasticy and dry. Maybe it's that it's not wet? And the teeth look like human teeth instead of the sharp ass teeth that were showed off well in Romulus. When it showed off it's teeth and they just looked like silver versions of my own teeth, I almost laughed. Flat teeth are for chewing up plants and grinding up food, not murdering prey. It instantly loses some of that predatory animal like feel when you see flat ass teeth.
The xeno is not laughably bad or anything, but this is definitely the cheapest the Xeno has ever looked on screen, and that's kind of a big flaw.
But thankfully I was expecting the show to be trash, and it's not. So far...
A ship crashed 911 style and there was a bunch of mean monsters in it. A corporation sends children in adult bodies to see what’s happening. Another corporation has their cyborg on the job. A moody medic wants to go to college, but gets sent to help any wounded survivors. Can someone give me a synopsis of the first episode, it was difficult to follow
Watched ep 1 and 2 like an hour ago.
I thought this sh*t was dope and if you treat it as an anime (kids in robot bodies, aliens, "Blade Runner" style megacorporations, etc.) instead of some kinda serious golden age drama then it will click for you.
I do not even know why people expect this to be something more than entertaining sci-fi in the first place. I mean anything related to "Alien". The franchise has been ass since "Alien: Resurrection", let's be real here. "Alien vs Predator", "Prometheus"....quality-wise all that ranged from stupid and entertaining at best, to awful at worst.
This is actually the best (along with "Romulus") it's been in decades.
Fred.
so much has been done with the first alien universe imo
