Even among human beings there are plenty of humans who would go and save a lower species like a whale or , or elephant, or a dolphin and before they would save their fellow human being. As we speak there are billions being funneled to these causes despite hundreds of thousands of homeless and disenfranchised fellow human beings also existing. Coexistence with other species isn't a zerosum game.

So I don't think such a mindset would be absent among higher species than us when they view humanity. We might luck out and get The alien equivalent of Jane Goodall
