Rap is an outlet for people to express themselves and it's also a hustle. Why else do you set corporations and cacs infiltrating it? Because it's a pot of gold. Stop romanticising a flawed artform
The art form isn't flawed, the industry is.
Rap is artform that one would usually pick up from Hip Hop culture. You can use that skill for whatever the fukk you want.
They exploited rap from the jump by getting some nikkas to create the first 'hit' that weren't even really MC's like that...
"overcharging nikkas for what they did to the cold crush." So no...you can't penalize a rapper for using their skills to make money. The fact that they honed the skill and what they did with it is what matters.
Jay said he was "I'm a hustla not a rapper" as in, a hustler who honed the skill of rap...that's because rap is something that you do, Hip Hop is something that you are. Pac would have been an "MC" even if he hadn't ever cut an album. He was a powerful speaker whether he was rhyming to a beat or not and he came up in Hip Hop culture.
