Jay got a bunch of faults but he is undeniably a great hip hopper. Listening to The Takeover ex post facto is a revelation. All that celebrity all that wealth all that commercial success...and he goes and does a battle track, not a beef track that we had all become accustomed to in the 90's and aughts but a good ol fashioned braggadocious battle track. The man was literally breakdancing in his magnum opus, he proudly declared his hip hop bona fides and was secure enough to openly challenge other great rappers (he may have lost but that's beside the point). In a way it is similar to The Bridge Is Over, and for that he deserves to be mentioned among the greats.





Not to mention he also managed to squeeze out whatever talent was left in Nasir
