Its just music breh. Like any art form its influential. But that influence is not just negative. There is plenty good coming from it as well. These artist are not leaders they are entertainers. Thats why they get paid to do.

How is it most likely listen to these same artist either in the past or present and your not out killing people or worse? Are you the exception to the rule? What makes you different? We can all indulge in fantasy without thinking it has to be our reality. On the other hand there are many out there that live that reality....and hiphop will always be the soundtrack to that lifestyle. :yeshrug:

Hiphop is building black dynasties by the way. At a much more rapid pace then any other form of economic growth in the black community. Let our people live breh. Hating with old man strawman politics and shyt....
You can't be a grown man and believe the bullshyt you just wrote dog..."dynasties" built on the back of propping up violence, misogyny and drug abuse do nothing for our community but perpetuate the myth that a destructive lifestyle can lead to wealth and long term success. The "it's just music" excuse is dead breh...those in a position to influence need to focus on empowering our children and strengthening our communities...and music as a source of inspiration and education is critical in that regard. Y'all niccas ain't ready for that though...niccas would rather ride around listening to some ignorant ass bullshyt about a life neither you and likely that rapper never lead than flipping the script and using our struggle as a way to promote POSITIVITY and reject the foolishness these rap niccas make money off of.

Doesn't matter, the anti-hip hop crusade love to drag him as if he's a facilitator of black youth dealing dope despite the following variables that are never touched upon.

1) has anyone actually started dealing drugs because of that song?

2) has anyone black started dealing because of that song, if so why is that?

3.)Do black youth even listen to or even aware who Pharrell even is?

4.) If they do, and they do in fact deal drugs, are the other messages from his music that they incorporate?

I mean if we're being for real about this we gotta approach this from all angles now
:jbhmm:
This behavior has existed before the rise of hip-hop. What is the explanation of the negative behavior of the late 60's or early 70's? The disproportionate black crime rates in the early 1900s?

Teens of all races admitting to getting in fights has trended down, blacks do the same drug rate as whites, overall teen drug use has trended downward greatly since the 90s, and the violence rate has trended down since the 90s on a nationwide scale.

Also need to ask these people where are their peer reviewed studies about this stuff? Where is the non-anecdotal evidence that the 90s music was "more lyrical" compared to today? Shouldn't white people who listen to the music just as much as we do be doing the same behaviors?

:martin: Arent you just the moral compass of integrity. Hiphop is precisely the definition of taking struggle and flipping the script and promoting positivity. You might look past that because your one of those corny ass nikkas who wear dashikis for the sole purpose of being black. Aka the full of shyt Sharif ass nikka......

Plenty of black professionals listen to hip hop all day every day. If its ignorant its ignorant but I appreciate the art of the music. Because I love the music. Unlike you I have layers..and dont prefer to let music define who the fukk I am. I can listen to Biggie Gimmie the Loot while at the same time processing clients to recieve cancer medications. I can Listen to TI and LilWayne and bond to with my son and his friends while I take them on a weekend retreat for young black men. I can put Kendrick and Cole on the loud speaker when I work the community centers clothing drive. Which I do. Both artist who have done charity events in my city. You dont know shyt about me or what some of these artist do outside the media spotlight....While you hating and being a judgememtal bytch...pretending like black people are too dumb to listen to music and not associate it with entertainment. FOH nikka...

What huge influence does music have on people?

It does have influence on pop culture...clothing..slang...drugs..etc..etc...the problem these fools only want to talk about the negative..pretending its all bad to better fot thier narratives...one tracked minded nikkas who are honestly to narrow minded to evem acknowledge to full picture which they clearly know exist. Its fake outrage used to mask thier own distain for the lifestyle these people live. Which in most cases is a million times better than thier own miserable lonely ass lives...most of em anyway.

after what Meek Mill said i agree that most these rappers who rap about these topics need to tone it down a bit and really start changing people's perspective about Hip Hop. most people look at them as hypocrites rapping about these things while starting to preach about how they can do that due to the enviroment they were brought up on. guys like Kendrick & J.Cole are good examples when it comes to these topics, but people bash them for being boring which is dumb as shyt. rappers need to take a stand and not condone all that violence in the music all the time, unless there's a story behind it.

All the lean and molly talk is a lot worse than the gun talk in my opinion. People are more likely to be influenced to fill up a cup of lean than they are to shoot somebody, barrier to entry and repercussions are a lot lower and the shyt is fukking up a lot of people.

It can set trends but even thats overstated because clothing and slang are harmless

People will always try new drugs.

But your perspective is spot on
