What does the single mom get out of forfeiting her deduction? The person who claims the kid is in a higher tax bracket and will share their ill-gotten tax return gains? How does this scam work? :-/

It's mostly for mothers with more than 2 children.

The govt. only lets you claim up to two kids leaving the others vacant (so to speak).

So if a woman has say, 5 kids she would claim 2, and let someone claim the other 3 while she gets a cut.
