Even though it’s not a country, should also include Hong Kong cos that was the last territory of the British empire to be “given up” in ‘97.
And those Asians wept for white daddy. I can understand not wanting to be part of China and wanting independence but they wanted to stay under white daddy. I never seen any thing like.that shyt.

Technically, Singapore should be part of that list. It was part of Malaysia when it gained independence then split from Malaysia a few years later.

This footnote in history tripped my mind out when I learned of it.

In Da 15th
Ancient Rome gave them the greedy game. The sun never sat/set on the British Empire. That's some real gangsta isht.

And don't forget a few Roman emperors were down in Egypt f-in Cleopatra and dem Northern Africans

They copied everything from the Romans, including religion but the Romans were never as greedy, adventurous, cunning & vicious as those that built the British empire. Any time the Romans felt holding a territory would make the empire vulnerable (cue Roman London) - they didn’t mind leaving it voluntarily. The British empire was different - they used genocide as a tool whenever they felt vulnerable (Romans mostly never really went that far in a lot of cases). They were also very cunning & used divide/conquer to get whatever they wanted. These were barbarians/vandals who weren’t as sophisticated as the Romans.

The craziest thing is that they achieved this feat mostly through piracy (the biggest pirates ever). And the dead empire is a reminder if you dare to be great, you can achieve it. Hence the British SAS’ motto is: who dares, wins.

Anyway, the empire was buried under the Suez Canal in Egypt & it’s a lesson to other empires that everything has its time-span & nothing lasts forever.

The Chi
This is common knowledge the uk was the original super power and hegemony atleast post roman era
I thought the Portuguese were the first though... They were the first to venture to west Africa by ship from Europe...and around Africa. they started the Trans-Atlantic slave trade...even sailed to Japan and brought a black man to Japan

great post/read on history!!!!!

The Romans had warmer weather, great wine to get their bacchanal /debauchery on. And those Mediterranean women have that fire you know what that may have weakened them.

Why did Titian add that child in his famous painting?

Prolly pedophillia...the Baroque movement takes a liking from the Renaissance period and they loved showing nekkid kids. Or it could be that Venus is the woman laying down and she is always shown with children mostly.

Didn't really know about that part of the Middle East outside of Palestine and Egypt. Almost all of the Arabian Peninsula outside of Saudi Arabia was still colonies up to the 60's and 70's. I'm sure there's an interesting story to that.

That says more about China reneging on the "One country, two systems" agreement more than anything. :francis:

I never understood why people have so much energy for America but then let the UK walk on by

For the simple reason that it's now the US's little brother. English-speaking imperialism is now associated with the US, even though it's the UK that set it up. It's now to the point that the UK is hardly ever criticized for its (neo)imperialistic policies and/or for having benefited from slavery and colonialism. Even worse, the UK is sometimes brought up as an example of "good" colonialism (lmao). That energy as you said is mostly kept for the US (to a certain extent, since it's untouchable) and France. Other "former" imperialistic countries such as Portugal, Spain, Belgium or The Netherlands are just basically irrelevant now on the international scene.

"Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
"Britons never will be slaves."
