In this thread, we discuss all things Artemis II related.

Artemis II is a planned lunar spaceflight mission under the Artemis program, led by NASA. It is intended to be the second flight of the Space Launch System (SLS), and is both the first crewed mission of the Orion spacecraft and the first crewed mission to the vicinity of the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. Launch is scheduled for no earlier than February 5, 2026.

Artemis II crew:

The plan is a long term moon base and ultimately a launching pad to Mars...

NASA's Artemis 2 rollout could be as early as this weekend as the space agency makes final preparations for its first crewed Artemis moon mission.
NASA is on track to send humans around the moon as early as Feb. 6 as it makes final preparations for the imminent rollout of its Artemis 2 mega moon rocket.

Yeah, probably because it's a fly by the moon mission and not a landing. The landing and permanent base will be huge news, though.
For sure but I've seen more and bigger coverage for commercial flights to suborbital space than the first crewed mission to the Moon in half a century, it just feels weird, lol.

NASA's Artemis 3 astronauts won't land on the moon after all. 'This is just not the right pathway forward.' | Space NASA's Artemis 3 astronauts won't land on the moon after all. 'This is just not the right pathway forward.'

Ehh, they are clearly not ready yet. I'm note sure why Artemis 4 and 5 would be able to do it just 1 year later but hopefully that's the case :ld:

Thing is, if they don't start showing results soon they ain't gonna be getting the funds to actually do these missions going forward :dead:

it makes sense, 3 was probably got a bit too ambitious and they got more than the funding/international support they were asking for really

lunar gateway is still the goal of most of this. plus from the article referring to the old 2025 stuff-

does any mission need that many firsts? after artemis 2 there will be a ton of stuff to build on/modify anyways. i don't really see it as some big pivot tbh
