Or they were knocked to the ground

(Like the vid on the very front page got KO'd by the PAL boxer for trying to rob a drugstore)
I agree, wrestling is more useful in the streets... As well as boxing.

I would say Muay Thai if you didn't throw your kicks too high.

Only time I seen BJJ work is on random YouTube vids where the dudes automatically fall on the floor to try and get a lock... That's a no no where I'm from because you never know whose around

BJJ works in closed, 1v1 settings without threat of outside interference and against people with no type of skills at all usually.

It's good to know in if you're in MMA though. But I know for a fact that most dudes who do MMA do it not for the art, discipline, etc.

It's so they can be a complete douche without fear of repercussions... And it's kinda that brainwashing they do where they believe their art is better than everyone's because the Gracie's fought a bunch of random dudes not familiar with the style back in the day.

Most MMA guys remind me of whiteboys that be in the gym looking at themselves in the mirror or think they're hard because they've put on muscle
I know the exact types you're talking about too, and even then eventually in the street they end up testing someone way more skilled and still get hurt. These are the types who take a few lessons and think everything's cool and get an ego until its time to spar/roll and they start getting their egos crushed. They'll try to bully new dudes too until they, themselves get put in their place until they eventually quit due to lack of discipline/humility, then they wanna pick fights in the street to sooth their bruised egos. Never fails :mjlol: It's kinda like Eddie Bravo said, legit gyms are a sort of douchebag filter, those who wanna show up simply to stroke their ego are often weeded out quickly.

Yeah I'm a boxing guy. Been one since I trained as a kid.

By far my favorite workout to do (it's the only cardio I do since fukking up both legs) but I'm not gonna front on BJJ like it isn't useful or good to know. My only issue is when they start disrespecting boxing or any other sport that's tough to compete in... But that's usually from newbies or the clowns you described.

But personally, I have no issue with it or any other art. I have a ton of friends I know that train or compete (my uncles buddy has a son that's like a BJJ state champion in La for his weight class. Real cool, humble kid too).

I've met Amatuer MMA fighters and boxers all over. Trained/sparred with a pro, know female boxers/fighters, etc. One of my closest friends was an amateur MMA/BJJ fighter in HS like 10 years ago. You learn a lot from those guys just people need to stay humble. There's still ordinary guys in the street that could catch you slipping.

Even my homie said he doesn't give a fukk in the street, he's not gonna use BJJ unless it's his last resort. He rather hit a nikka with a bat or something and get the fukk out of the situation in general... And I agree

I would post vids of my boxing training but I look a lil :flabbynsick: for my liking.

This is some real shyt right here. You never know who or what you're up against, that, and it could be say you're at the bar/club or some shyt, you're drunk, and someone comes at you, you're not gonna be as coordinated or think as quickly, so you do what you gotta do to make it home safe. A street fight is a street fight, I'm only fighting in the street if I have no choice and have to defend myself, and I'm gonna do just that even I gotta gouge eyes, strike windpipes, kick knees in, drive heads into walls, pull hair/dreads....IDGAF, it's me or them. The rules are in the ring/cage. I've stolen nikkas mid sentence plenty of times....matter fact that's my go to move whenever someone confronts me in a threatening manner. Bomb first :youngsabo:

I'm Gay and do BJJ. Would you roll with me? *

Quick clarification: This isn't a request, but a serious question.

I am gay, in a committed monogamous relationship with another man, and have been practising brazilian jiujitsu at a local gym for just over two years now (not too far off blue belt, if I trained more regularly, maybe I'd already have one, who knows). The gym is quite a large one, and is very well known globally, though for reasons that should be apparent I'm not going to say which one.

On other websites dedicated to jiujitsu and grappling arts, there is definitely a noted stigma against homosexual males practising jiujitsu on the basis that either they're doing it for sexual reasons and trying to "get off" from it, or the basis that if a gay man rolls with them in class, they'll all suddenly contract HIV. I personally think both of these are ridiculous, but nonetheless they are prevailing points of view that also seem to be quite common in the gym itself. It's rare to hear a conversation about gay people from the people in the gym, but sometimes it DOES happen, and it makes me very glad that I have kept my classmates in the dark about my sexuality (I am very much "out" in every other aspect of my life).

Essentially, as a result of encountering these points of view elsewhere, I want to know your opinions, and pose a few questions to you guys:

  • If you knew I was gay, and in YOUR academy, would you roll with me?

  • If the answer was yes, would that view change if I was NOT in a committed long term relationship? (I have been single before, and during that period slept with other people, albeit safely. I'm curious about the views based not just on the strange fear of gay men carrying around infinite STDs, but also potentially on the idea that a single gay man would be a "sexual threat")

  • If you were to find out that I go to your academy, or have BEEN to your academy, and you have rolled with me, or any other gay man without your knowledge (Considering the gyms I have visited, and that mine is a rather large one, there's probably at least a few guys on here I have rolled with), what would your thoughts on the subject be? This question is for anyone, but particularly aimed at those who feel uncomfortable rolling with gay males.

  • What are your thoughts on Gay men in jiujitsu as a whole?
Also: feel free to AMAA.

EDIT: Thankyou guys. Elsewhere I've seen some pretty nasty comments in regards to things like this, but here, not a single one! It's nice to know that negative views on this sort of thing appear to be becoming less and less common in the BJJ community, at the very least on Reddit.
