MADISON, WI (WMTV/CNN) - A student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is causing a stir with his personally created sweatshirt that says "All white people are racist."
Eneale Pickett says he hopes the the clothing sparks conversation, but critics say it sends the wrong message.
"All white people are inherently racist, if they want to believe it or not," said Pickett, a sophomore.
"I'm planning to have people check their privileges," he said. "People have been talking about race, sexuality and gender, but now I'm doing it to make them uncomfortable."
Last month he debuted the sweatshirts on Etsy, which soon drew attention on social media.
Michael Johnson, the president of the Dane County Boys and Girls Club and a leader in the African American community, said that "Shirts like this, it's just not right."
"Are there racist people? yes," Johnson said. "Are all white people racist? absolutely not."
Another hoodie reads "If I encounter another cop with a God complex, I'm going to have to show the world that they are human."
Pickett said he meant to say that if there's no justice, there's no peace. "It's people that look like me that's dying every day in the street," he said.
Although Pickett has received death threats, he intends to keep selling the sweatshirts to keep creating conversations on race.
