I don't think the argument holds much weight that this oligarchy is inherently different because they're Jewish. As far as I know, most Jews (and particularly the successful/wealthy/intelligent ones) do not take the religion very seriously. I'd bet that they're more open-minded than the WASPs are.

YES, Ashkenazi Jews do have middle eastern genes. However, that is very different than saying they have middle eastern roots. Armenians, Georgians, and other eastern europeans have similar proportions to the ashkenazi. THIS IS UNDISPUTED. Are those groups also descended from the original hebrews?
