They've internalized a preconception about your race. And it doesn't matter how much the individual behaves in a way that contradicts that because they don't see the individual. Meaning it doesn't matter if you wear a suit and walk on the financial district, as long as their mind flashes back to the ''black thug in a dark street'' stereotype, they're going to be scared. In short, it doesn't matter what you wear because they're not judging you on what you do, but rather on what they think people who look like you do.
