Exactly. It is sad how this system is set up for you to HATE knowledge and to keep you in debt.

don't get me started on the debt :snoop:

But the funny thing is I dropped out of college when I was 20 only to return 5 yrs later. I learned more in those 5 yrs through reading and self teaching than all of damn hs. I see things differently now since i understand how things work. I cant expect to truly "learn" much from academia that will stay with me forever. All I can do is continue to get these A's, pass my way through, and get the fukk on since thats how things go.

I had to accept the reality that at the end of the day, either you play the game and have a chance at staying in your socioeconomic status (because rising is slim to damn near impossible) or you don't and are subject to lower wage jobs due to lack of formal education, or you start a business. :manny:

Unfortunately, there are not many options out there if muhfukkas wanna eat good and live well.

As much as I loathe how the system is and how it operates, its a means to an end. and I see it just as that.:ld:

It wasn't his fault. Can I tell you he had the most gorgeous handwriting I've ever seen? Breathtakingly beautiful. Like he went back to the 1700s to learn how to write cursive :dahell: He was one of two students I gave a grade of 90+ to...and I don't give 90s :birdman:

I love that :ahh: breh was gifted. I don't understand why cursive is no longer a necessity to learn in school anymore :dahell:

I learned it and still use it. :manny:

HS...

To me, I think it has to do with 1) not feeling a connection to the material 2) disinterest in the genre/subject 3) it wasn't instilled in them from a young age

A few years back I taught freshman English. When I found out I was like :merchant: because honestly speaking I'm not big on reading books myself (I fall under category 2) and I knew that English is difficult to teach. Plus I had special ed classes. The first semester had many :snoop: moments but I found my niche with plays (Othello, Raisin in the Sun, etc.). I did my best to build a connection and make it "modern" and they ATE. THAT. shyt. UP. :blessed: I received a commendation and everything.

Still didn't get tenure that year, but that is another thread :beli:
Lets talk about it. Why didnt you get tenure?

I really hated the structure of school, I lose interest very quickly, and I resent it. I never felt like I was ever being tested enough, shyt was boring. Most of the stuff I was taught I was parroting but you know, if you parrot well know enough and get good grades you're "smart". :mjpls:

right. :snoop: you learn to be what is expected.

I feel you on the connecting thing breh, I always resented the fact that I was taught more white history than anything else as if thats the only history that matters.:pacspit: I still think about that shyt to this day. Now all I read is afro american history.

And I'm really good at Math/Science but I fukkin hate it, and I was placed in a school that focused on that. :pachaha: That shyt was torture to me. I kept fantasizing about dropping out.

Thats actually an interest of mine, but i have no clue what goes on in the field. :lupe:

Long story short, they are the puppet masters who pull the strings. Lets just say that the people responsible for urban education are not "urban." I'm waiting to hear back from a fellowship I applied for. I really pray that I get it. There is no joy in teaching, just stress. I'm ready to throw it in the bushes :camby:

I had a student who basically dropped out. It breaks my heart even today. A young, handsome black kid who was as close to a gotdamn genius as you can get. Was bored as hell in school and just said :manny:

Ok, so I shouldn't care about talented students with a fukked up homelife? Nikkas say that teachers don't give a fukk about their students but when they express admiration for their student's intellect nikkas say dumb shyt like the above. You're a fukkin' dikkhead for that statement I don't play that shyt.
