back in the 50's and 60's in LA, you joined a gang at like 14 and at 18 u became responsible adult by leaving the gang life.
it wasn't until the crips formed that becoming an OG was something to look up to.

I don’t recommend it, but if you’re going to do it, you may as well join the largest gang in the world: the police.

Ridiculously low barrier to entry, great benefits, and plenty of allies (in and outside of the gang) to blindly defend you when needed.
