Am I crazy for not liking any Fiction, Fantasy or any Make Believe movies/TV? Anyone else agree?

I never liked super hero movies. I can see why kids like it but never understood why grown folks like. I red all the Harry Potter books and I liked it, but the movies I can't watch it. Too boring and leaves out too much stuff

kinda this way with shows. But I don’t watch shows in general. I’ll watch a good scary or action movie tho. YouTube the only thing I watch fr :manny: you can watch entertaining slop or learn something. Atleast I’ll never have to worry about cable

Those things are our modern mythologies, story telling and mythos are important aspects to the human experience.

Personally I can't take grown man in costumes seriously. That reminds me of an old tv show "Heroes" I think it was the name. I liked that show ( only the 1st season) cause they were showing people with superpowers without the corny shiny costumes, it made shyt more fire to me. But after the 1st season the show fell off bad lol

There is a lot to learn from stories even bad ones:ehh: It's how we make sense of the collective human experience.:manny:

you can watch whatever you want but fiction gives us some of the greatest stories, themes and writing ever put to paper.

That’s why that low iq = fiction thread was dumb. I’d hate to not understand Shakespearean drama.

Ya'll would be surprised, but if you ever watched True Crime, it is exactly what you are talking about. Ain't no better story with deep themes that capture the human experience than a True Crime Documentary. They go into so many range of emotions in a 1 hour film/episode

I love true crime as well but that's different. The world we live in has conditioned us to live in our heads and navigate from logic in a lot of aspects of our lives. Symbolism, allegory, STORY TELLING activates parts of the brain that you cannot just telling it 'like it is'. Where does the impulse to create new things come from if we never imagine beyond what's in front of our faces.

Again, no harm in if you gravitate away from that kind of stuff. But true crime is essentially journalism and as powerful as journalism is I don't think it's impact on humanity can compare to mythology.

I feel you, but there is no better storytelling than a True Crime documentary. Especially the ones about the mind of Serial Killers, or the ones where they break down the Victimology, or the ones from the perspective of a Detective breaking down his most famous cases

Just because someone has makeup on, a costume, a green screen background, a wig, or a fake accent doesn't automatically make it better storytelling

Of course not but the point of adding those elements, well before we got to film is again to stimulate the higher thinking faculties, inspire creativity and condense complex things into symbols for the collective to grok.

Our films and TV shows are our hieroglyphics. It's people that have more of a connection The Matrix than they do the bible mythos yet the basics are there.

Thank you, same here. Not a big fan of movies. But the ones I do watch have to be absolutely a mirror image of reality or I'm not watching it. Malcolm X, Good Will Hunting, Juice, A Bronx Tale, Forrest Gump, Wolf of Wall Street, Casino, He Got Game, etc

True crime is cool, although a lot of it is sensationalized itself.

But there’s no documentary better than
The godfather
True detective
The wire
Goodfellas
Oldboy
Game of thrones
Even anime like Berserk

Goodfellas and the Godfather yes. All the others are fantasy and make believe
