Am I naive because I think society is better in general, racially?

That's not what people are saying. As much as things have changed in a lot of ways they still remain the same. Someone born in 1950 was raised by someone born in 1920. They were conditioned to look at things a certain way. They're kids were born in the 80's. They conditioned their children the same way. Now due to integration they may have more exposure to people of other ethnic groups, but that default programming remains the same. Just look at certain forums and message boards. You have young white men who've grown up in the most liberal, "free" time in US history, yet still push the same racist rhetoric of the past. They're mad because they can't live, walk, talk, and act as freely as their parents and grandparents did. They have branded themselves a victim class, and consider themselves oppressed. Who's oppressing them? Who's limiting their freedom of movement? Who's denying the access to housing, or education? No one. They want their chance on top of the hill, and they despise anyone who may call that into question.

Right, but what im asking is, are things better

I didn't ask if it was Nirvana 2023

Things are definitely better

Well one would expect we'd be past this point in 2023. Nothing will ever be perfect, but there seems to be a regression going on. The saddest part is that you'll never feel more American until you leave America.

So a corporation taking a handkerchief mammy image off of their brand because American corporations in general do not what ANY problems got you thinking the US is a better place racially?

With a 70%+ poverty rate back then too. "I was happy on the back of the bus! :damn::mjcry:"

Yes, but you're oversimplifying

I am not saying the company is good, what I'm saying is that treating black people like shyt

Has societal consequences, which is good

So yes, it is better from that perspective

Heres the deal Breh

2/3 of white people are still racist. So the group that's trying to be better is the other 1/3 of white people.

When you take the 1/3 of "cool" whites plus the other Americans that are liberal (think that Black people are real people, basically) then you get the slight majority of American society that is against white supremacy.

So as the white population percentage goes down we get a little more slight majority as the liberal "half".

Overall I think it's going in the right direction.. but that 2/3 of racists white people is a MOTHERFUKCER. They know what time it is and they are upset. And they are not going quietly. That's what Trump and MTG and all these crazy mfs are about. Tearing some shyt down on the way out the door.
I feel like 1/3rd is being generous

Maybe more like 1/6 and most of that not necessarily "not racist" but just not outwardly hostile to other races or their plights

Good topic.

I've been around a multitude of white people across the spectrum in my life; lived in the burbs/boonies for part of my childhood, went to a PWI, I ran or managed blue collar warehouse/manufacturing plants white people in every corner of the country, and now I work in corporate America.

Most white people aren't "overtly" racist. That being said, white people don't even like to deal with the concept of race or ethnicity; it's an afterthought to them. And that's the problem, because it's an afterthought, they are semi-complicit with the fukk shyt that does happen. A gang them vote for Trump, not because they want to "make America great again", it's some make my 401k great again shyt for them. But in doing that, it ushers in a bunch of people who are overtly racist because unfortunately those policies are a part of a package. And those people moved in ARE looking to wind the clock back on progressive policies that have often benefited black people.

I'd say things are getting better, but it's at a glacial pace. Symbolism is largely irrelevant, yeah we shouldn't be hanging confederate flags and endorsing antebellum caricatures of black people on consumer goods, but that wholesale societal change that would benefit blacks comes at a removal of the privileges and advantages white people assume are inherently equitable. They aren't going to give that up without a fight.

So it's a multipronged approach to becoming a more egalitarian society that honestly, most people; whites, other minorities, and honestly even a large sum of black folk really aren't ready to have without injecting their own biases into it.

Honestly now, to address the one who says, 'Don't hold me responsible for what my ancestors did.' But you have enjoyed the benefits of what your ancestors did ... and unless you are ready to give up the benefits, throw away your 401 fund, throw away your trust fund, throw away all the monies you put away into the company you walked into because your daddy and grand daddy … Unless you are willing to give up the benefits then you must be responsible for what was done in your generation, because you are the beneficiaries of this insurance policy." -father pfleger
