I reside in Connecticut, so I don't know much about local NYC politics.
Technically speaking, no election is a lock. If enough people do not vote, NY would turn red. Most likely won't happen, but you voting will make it infinitesimally more likely. So that's one reason, although I think NY is a lock too.
If the presidential election is the only issue on the ballot, then you'd have a leg to stand on here. But are there any local, state or gubernatorial candidates on the ballot? They'll be running on issues that directly impact you. fukk a Hillary or Trump, who's running for Mayor, or district congressman/woman? If they're on the ballot, you absolutely should be voting for who represents you the most.

Presidential....no, but you should at least for your local measures.
The question isn't meant for me, but I didn't vote in 2008. I just turned 18, and I was ignorant on the issues. And I didn't take time to register to vote.
Deep down I regret not voting in 2008, to this day.
Because I never believed any politician could deliver on their promise(s).

i think a lot of people misunderstand what to expect from democrats and their philosophy
they seem to think the democrats are similar to other 1st world countries left wing when really they are not even close
the democrats philosophy is that its the governments role to ensure economic growth and to create an enviornment that maximizes the chances of prosperity for its citizens
which means theyll regulate corporations but only enough so that they dont restrict them
theyll subsidize an industry like crazy where other countries just turn them public, like health care or access to housing because subsidizing helps the citizen as well as the corporation, win/win for the democrat
they only provide economic relief to the lowest, impoverished underclass because those people arent doing shyt for the economy, theyre just fighting for survival and the economy needs consumers for wealth to flow
which means lower middle class and now middle class families are purposely ignored
Democrats balance the needs of the individual and the needs of the corporations, never doing something that would effect either too much.
if you want Democrats to be what Bernie stands for, you're in the wrong Country honestly. America is a capitalist nation, always has been.

I turned 18 that year too and sent in an absentee ballot from college.
I knew Obama wasn't gonna change anything but I voted for selfish reasons
wanted to tell my kids I voted for the 1st Black president

the states award all their electoral college votes to the candidate who won. so if you want to vote red in a guaranteed blue state, or blue in a guaranteed red state, your vote does not matter
