What exactly did you tell them? I'm spiritual? Agnostic that believes in science? Scientology, Buddhist, Rasta....Muslim. Wiccan or Coexistence?

You only said not Christian.

Nah, the aunt asked what church he went to and he said he didn't follow any religion. Enter zealot fukkery.

This has been my main problem with some nosy Christians. They ask and when you tell them, they :dwillhuh: and try to tell you about accepting salvation through Jesus Christ. You tell them you're not interested or don't believe even politely and now you're a demon. :martin:

Some do go over the top...

but I thought he said he went into a verbal discussion with her Husband.

Just keep treating her well, breh. Don't worry about her family.

Did you dig a deeper hole, by just babbling about nothing thinking you sounded intellectual while denouncing the family religion.

That would rub her family wrong.

:patrice::patrice::patrice:...not sure if you were asking me a condescending question or just taking a shot. either way, i told them up front that i don't judge people of any religion. i respect until disrespected. i told them as far as being christian, i don't believe in god the way i felt that christianity was teaching it. i told them i am not religious at all and was more on a spiritual journey.

Not taking a shot.

I was saying it from their viewpoint.

not long ago, i met the woman i am going to spend the rest of my life with. i could talk about my girl for hours, but it will only digress from my dilemma. i'll just say this.......we are sooo much alike and have very similar backgrounds, but different familial upbringings.

we're both from the south. she was brought up in the church, where as i was not and was literally given a choice to choose religion or not. around the time she was graduating college, she denounced christianity and informed her family of her decision. (this was well before my heathen ass :troll::troll::troll:came into the picture) she states that they accept her, but don't respect her religious stance at all.

i knew eventually i would meet these people and figured they would treat us both the same way, but they'd see my thoughts on religion had no effect on my moral compass and didn't change how i viewed life or how i treated her and them. i figured they'd also see she and i were a lot alike and we're still good people.

her sister suggested i come through for thanksgiving. i did and met two of her more outspoken southern black christian family members. i usually don't argue or discuss religion with southerners so i knew the subject wouldn't be brought up by me while i was there. the night went fine until we were getting ready to leave and her aunt asked me what church did i belong to. i told her i wasn't a follower of any religion and the rest of the conversation just went south from there. her husband must have gotten offended and chimed in, then he tried to get into a pissing match with me over church, science and my direction for answers to life, until we started to go in circles with it. that was when i just murked the whole conversation. :obama::obama::obama:i left there thinking, good, i got that out of the way and they will disseminate that info back to the rest of the fam and know that i will not be wavered on the subject. i thought once again that they'd see that i was still a good dude, i just saw religion different from them.......which was really no different from their own family member.

i'm the only dude she's dealt with that she has felt the need and want to bring around her family and friends. hell, since halloween, i've met her mom, sis, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, college friends, co-workers, etc. i've become a regular around their hood. from what she tells me, her friends and co-workers love me and see how much i make her light up and thinks we are so cute together. they really like and respect me, but her fam...

i was taken aback when my girl told me the weird negative energy her immediate family directed at her because of me. at first i wondered if i made a bad impression when i initially met them, but i am always cool and cordial when i meet people......especially friends and family of people that are super important to me. i figured that couldn't be it. it had to be the religious angle.

these folks are treating me the way they want to treat her, but won't because she is family. her mom and sister told her that they don't trust me because i am not christian.

i told my girl that ultimately i was in this for her and would only make an effort with those who reciprocated. as far as i'm concerned, her fam can eat a bundle of d**ks.:manny::manny::manny: am i wrong?
There is a God breh, you'll find him some day, it's never too late:jawalrus:

...see that's just it. i didn't go there trying to sell or hip them to anything. her aunt asked like i'm supposed to be totally different from her niece. they already saw that my girl is nothing like them, but they thought that the dude in her life is supposed to be with them on religion. that's totally asinine.
