I think his point is we were in a relationship and tried to help each other monetarily where we both had gains and losses. Once the relationship was over so were the transactions and we should just call it even. So saying I owe you money on TV was not it. And he provided a long winded story about how he felt she owed him money but he let it be after the fact. Not the most articulate but I gotta side with him. He wasn't even mean about it either.
