:why: do that? STAT has two years and like $42M left on that deal. u think he's gonna take a buyout of $25-30M??? :what:

that would be dumb as hell for him. might as well ride it out and keep cashing them checks.

Thats why I said as long as his finances are in order..
I never said it would be smart, but just seeing him sitting on the bench when Kmart fouled out was foul as shyt to me, hes no superstar anymore but when healthy he has something to contribute, if I were him Id rather take less money and go win a chip or at least compete for one.

Dude and his family shouldnt have a financial concern for generations if hes been smart with his money.

asking a dude to potentially throw $10M + of guarunteed money in the trash is asking a lot. I dont give a damn how financially well off one is.

Agreed and its highly unlikely that he would do it. I'm just speaking from my perspective, personally I would rather be a contributing member on a contender than feel and be worthless on a team that has no shot.

No one would take on his contract anyway, they're fukked cause they were shortsighted and overzealous to bring in a star and ended up giving Amare too many years because of that.

Real talk if I were Amare, as long as my finances were in order, I'd ask the Knicks to buy me out for like 10-15 mil and go sign with a contender, Woodson wants to sit him with Chandler and Martin fouled out, I don't care what the strategy is, going small or whatever, Amare should be out there in that situation.

Hibbert would have ate Amare alive

I dont see Melo no matter the situation with Stat/Tyson, etc. If anything he'll ride it out till they're gone and have a strong opinion in where the team goes.

That point about Stat being sat with Tyson & Martin fouled out is a great point and should speak tons about how Woodson feels (and pretty much all people know) about Amare & Melo on the court at the same time.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
Using the amnesty on Billups in the final year of his deal, while they had Amare on the roster with his shoddy knees was just unbelievably stupid. And they did it to give Tyson Chandler a max contract, it's like they weren't happy with just fukking themselves over, they had to remove the vaseline.

What was even worse was that they picked up Chauncey's team option, then amnestied him!!!

Dumbest shyt ever.

Chauncey Billups stays a Knick
Chris Sheridan [ARCHIVE]

ESPN.com | April 28, 2011

The New York Knicks decided not to buy out the contract of point guard Chauncey Billups on Wednesday, ensuring he will be with the team for his full $14.2 million salary for the 2011-12 season.

The Knicks had until Friday to pick up the option or pay Billups a $3.7 million buyout.

"Chauncey, Amare [Stoudemire] and Chauncey [Billups] are a great nucleus, as we continue to look to improve our team going into the offseason," Knicks president of basketball operations Donnie Walsh said in a statement. "Chauncey is an extremely talented and experienced point guard -- we are very happy to have him back."

Which Knicks would you bring back next season -- and which ones would you cut loose? Vote: Take 'Em or Trash 'Em

The 13-year veteran missed three of the Knicks' four playoff games, all losses, to the Boston Celtics after straining a knee tendon late in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Billups played 21 regular-season games with the Knicks after coming over from the Denver Nuggets in the Carmelo Anthony trade. He averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 assists for New York.

The Knicks had no immediate word on Walsh, who also has a team option on the fourth year of his contract, which expires June 30. There have been reports the Knicks are considering offering Walsh a two-year extension. He was expected to meet with Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan this week.

Billups will be 35 in September and said this week he hoped to return to New York for his 15th NBA season. After playing most of his career at 215 pounds, Billups said Monday he planned to come in at 210 next season to better handle the pace of Mike D'Antoni's system. He insists he has plenty of basketball left.

"My body has been great," Billups said. "I'm 34, not 39. My first five years I didn't play that much anyway, unfortunately, but my body is fine."

There wouldn't be many point guard options this summer better than Billups, a former NBA Finals MVP who is a top late-game performer. He didn't take long to prove it in New York, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:01 left in a win at Miami on Feb. 27, just four days after his Knicks debut.

But the sweep by Boston was an unusually early exit for the five-time All-Star, who reached the conference finals seven straight years with Detroit and Denver from 2003 to 2009, and said he wanted to be around when the Knicks brought championship-caliber basketball back to New York.

"Getting swept in the first round, I don't do this," Billups said. "This is not fine with me, so I like to play later in the season, I want an opportunity."

Chris Sheridan covers the NBA for ESPN.com. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

So instead of a 3.7 million dollar buyout, they pick up his 14.5 million dollar option THEN realize they can get Tyson chandler and waste their amnesty on him anyways when amare's contract is already looking really questionable

they picked up his option before there was any talk of an amnesty clause being included in the new cba.

Amare and Melo was never gonna excel, but Amare getting hurt in 2011 didn't help and then the lockout season where he decided to gain bulk putting more weight on those shaky knees. Then he got hurt again this season and missed over half the season. It's obvious he can still play but him and Melo don't fit and he cant stay healthy. Don't no how they do it but its time for them and Stoudemire to part ways. But I gotta feeling he's gonna be right back in New York next season.
