I am doing more FBA this year but I have a love hate relationship with how their rates keep going up and for some of my products which are heavy but low priced, it isn't worth it. With this USPS postal rate increase last month where my rates went up almost 20%, I think I will have to go to FBA whole hog since the Amazon shipping reimbursement now is way out of whack with minimum postage.

Yeah when they raised usps rates that put a hurting on a nikka. I just passed the cost onto the customer in the end tho. I also found a way to finesse the self serve USPS kiosks too. I select the Priority Mail flat rate small envelope option and then use that label for bigger boxes- the legal sized envelopes or even the flat rate boxes sometimes. The label just says priority mail, it don't list the exact classification. Although I'm pretty sure the post office folks could figure it out if they look at the price. Haven't had an issue yet tho and I been using the kiosk daily for damn near a year now. I hardly even print labels from home anymore. The money you save thru printing online is negated by the money I save by shorting the kiosk.

So my first Private Label item is in production. It's coming from India so I don't have to worry about CNY. I will be able to order the second product after the CNY on the 22nd. I'm so excited. The first product has my logo printed on it and everything. The second product won't have the logo on the item so I will have some tags made.

How is everyone reacting to the fee hikes? Shipping on some items has gone up as much as 50%...

Free year of UPS Smart Pickup
Home

The way smart pickup works is you basically give UPS your location and they come and pickup boxes from wherever you are once a week. This service costs $40 a month but they have this offer going on where you can basically utilize this service a whole year for free. Most people don't know about it at all. I knew about it and thought it was too good to be true but I wasn't selling FBA at the time so I didn't have a real use for it. I signed up yesterday and it's legit. Only thing I would say is call customer service to confirm that the promotion is applied to your account. First time I tried to use it I was still seeing charges but I called customer service and they cleared that up for me.

To sell private label products on Amazon, does it have to have your logo printed? When I find a product I want to order, the cost of the logo printing causes me to have to order more units and increase cost. Is there anyway around that?

How do you plan on getting tags made?

No you don't NEED it. But it helps stop people from getting on your listings and builds product creditability/brand creditability which makes it possible to build a strong brand that you can eventually sell or have sold by retailers. However many sellers don't add their logos until the product tests positive. So I wouldn’t worry about it until you have enough to pay for the higher MOQs ie until you find out if the product is worth selling.

As far as the logo, some manufacturers do require higher MOQs but some don't. One of my first products has a logo that was just a one time fee of like $50 and it's only a 50 products which I negotiated with the manufacturer. However another product I have has a high MOQs for customizations so I plan to order custom stickers or tags. There are tons of sites where you can have them printed just upload the picture of your logo. If you need a logo fiverr.com is great just make sure you have it done in every format b/c manufacturers may require different formats.

How do you research and pick which product to private label?

have you had products that failed?

I use ASINspector Pro and a spreadsheet to calculate the numbers.

I am still in production for my private label products. They should be good to go by the end of the month. But I have had plenty of arbitrage products fail. But my experience with Amazon is that the good usually significantly out weighs the bad.

How can ASINspector Pro be used for Private Label products?
