Please educate me oh wise one on how different this thing is to an OUYA or the plethora of other Android based set top boxes out there.

At its core, the Ouya WAS created to be a gaming first device.

At it's core, the Amazon Fire Tv was NOT created to be a gaming first device.

Much like the Xbox One at its core was NOT created to be a gaming first device.

I gather its a set top boxed based off of the Android OS? That's all I need to know to determine this a failure. You think people will have this thing next to their Apple TVs, Chrome Sticks, Roku Boxes, PS4s, Wiis, and Xbox Ones? Really? The real estate around the TV is already croweded. Amazon should focus on incorporating its media services into already existing platforms. This is a bad move all the way around, don't really care how many cores its processor has or how many gigs of rams are on board...

What are you talking about. They all run Android, so they'll in turn likely be running similar software. Spare with what you feel these devices were "intended" to be.

I just noticed today on my Kindle, you can now download streaming Amazon Prime content, movies (some) and tv shows to watch offline. You have 30 days, then if you want to keep it longer you have to log onto the internet to renew it.

This shows promise for XBMC (my only use for this device) though it's not 100% there yet. I think this should be working well with XBMC in the next few weeks now that its available for purchase.
