Amazon Go cashierless convenience store opening to the public
After a nearly 14-month trial run open only to the Seattle company’s employees, Monday marks the public debut of the store — among Amazon’s boldest efforts to reshape brick-and-mortar shopping.

Seattle Times business reporter
Amazon Go is a go for the masses.

The retailer’s cashierless convenience store will open its doors to the public Monday, a debut that follows a nearly 14-month trial run open only to the Seattle company’s employees.

The store requires customers to scan their smartphone on the way in, tracks them with cameras and other sensors as they browse, and, when they take an item off the shelf, adds it to a virtual cart. Groceries are charged to the customer’s Amazon account when they leave with their goods.

And unemployment through the roof...

but who cares about that right? People not having jobs isn't important...

Lets give all the jobs to machines so you don't have to deal with "annoying people"...:comeon:

The idea that we shouldn't make technological progress or implement technology because people might lose jobs is silly.

The Luddites were a group of English textile workers and weavers in the 19th century who destroyed weaving machinery as a form of protest. The group was protesting the use of machinery in a "fraudulent and deceitful manner" to get around standard labour practices.[1] Luddites feared that the time spent learning the skills of their craft would go to waste as machines would replace their role in the industry.[2]

Crazy to think people still think like this while reaping all the benefits of the massive societal upheaval rapid technological advance has led to over the past 2 centuries.

Technology creates jobs. Where one job is losted another one is gained.
True to an extent...

What you're missing is one simple fact...

Those who are going to capitalize on those new jobs are those who have the money and time to learn a new trade...

The mid 30s mother from southside jamaica queens who lives paycheck to paycheck working that cashier job to support her three children is shyt out of luck...

yeah she will be. with every advance someone loses. society adapts. we use to have an agrarian society where having a shyt ton of kids were needed and now people don't. so in the future that sing woman with 3 kids might have one child or none.

Technology creates jobs. Where one job is losted another one is gained.
where multiple jobs are lost one job is created. automation does not create more jobs. it decreases them. you lose 20checkers but you gain the people who created app and the tech. well we know more people created the app and the tech. butttt if you multiply the 20 checkers by a 1000 stores. then you could surely see how many jobs will be lost in the long run and why only a few jobs will be created on the other side.

Exactly.

My only hope is that this spurs people to create small businesses in their own communities and there is a huge push to buy local and from within instead of at these big chains that want to eliminate us from life it seems...
