I’ve been calling that shyt a wiretap that people willingly put in their home for some time now.

This goes back to a government program under Bush called TIA (total information awareness). The press got wind of it and brought so much heat the goverment said they were going to cancel it. Really all they did was give it a top secret new name.

So now the government has 1984-ish access to what goes on inside your house. They're already buiding a DNA database with Ancestry data. In 5 years they'll probably be mandating Alexa-like devices "because they aid emergency response."

Mute the mic :manny:
:sas1: you really think it's muted breh?

They got a backdoor on that shyt and why I would never have this shyt in my house. Not planning to commit murder but I just don't like my personal life being collected and sold as a commodity to advertisers which is what all these big data collectors are doing.

shyt I already got a phone I'm sure is spying on me.

Now Facebook is coming out with their own Alexa called portal that I've seen an ad for and you know how Facebook is a habitual line stepper. You know they're going to have your dikk down sessions with your wife on some server in California and all of sudden you're seeing Trojan condom and sex coach ads all over your Facebook :sadbron:

It was marketed as a hardware mute switch on the echo.

That should give you the reasonable expectation of privacy needed to not get jammed up in court. :yeshrug:

Pretty much have had mine on mute the whole time i've had it as I really only use it as a bluetooth player. I periodically say "Alexa, ..." to see if she responds. nothing..... yet :scheme:

like the above poster said. you can think she aint listen if you want to.

here's how the logic goes.

Alexa off Mute:keep listening service on, If audio input = "Alexa" Respond

Alexa On Mute: Keep listening service on, If audio input ="Alexa" Do not respond

Notice whats the same? both are always listening. mute or no mute.

Apparently it is truly hardware though according to a breakdown = no power to the mic. Eitherway :yeshrug:, Amazon gonna get data of me smoking weed and blasting rap music same as siri tbh

Setup and use of these home systems, you’re also providing permission...you’re explicitly setting up an always on always listening device. As for apps, those shyts are listening in the background, you think folks really reading EULA’s that deep to know everything these apps are accessing outside of contacts, camera and location? :usure:

Any connected device and any activity you engage in over the internet and phone is likely to be monitored and able to be recalled. It is what it is at this point

Thats such a defeatist attitude:francis: . The battle for anonymity and privacy is still being waged, Difficult to overcome bit not impossible.

You can reduce surveillance on your device by rooting it, using a firewall or xPrivacyLua and a vpn to start with.

Smart TVs and appliances. Hell even the remote controls nowadays have voice recognizing capabilities :francis:

The problem for me is they pipe your voice out out to the internet for "processing." Just like your iPHone if you don't turn off the feature and make sure it stays off (they try to trick you into turning it back on with deceptively worded update steps). I don't use voice activated anything in my house.
