see i'm against these subsidies period so taking from one part of the state to enrich another part of the state is still not cool in my book because if it's needed in southern va then that means the southern va workforce isn't qualified in the first place because if they were then homegrown companies would pop up. what would happen is a whole new class of people would be imported to southern va and the only help it would be to the existing residents of southern va in need of jobs is that maybe some trickle down labor intensive and retail jobs to service these new residents with money. tradesmen would do well because more people means more building and shyt going bad.

i feel in a case like this it's better to use govt money to improve the skills of the people in southern va. if these jobs just needed people then i'd probably shrug (still hate the subsidies) because there is nothing special about that and anyone could do it so it would help the people in that area, but these high paying jobs require highly educated people. if new york or nova had a problem where they spent so much money educating their citizens only for them to pack up and leave because there are no jobs then maybe an argument could be made for enticing companies that would help them stay. but there is no shortage and even if that was the situation the best option is helping grow businesses in your city so that the educated don't leave.

it's just a quick way to bring in a better educated class of people instead of producing it yourself.
I should backtrack, I am not at all for subsidies for mid to large-cap companies.

I support them for small businesses or start-ups, but that should be capped and the expectation should be that the state/municipality gets that money back through taxes.

But if you had to do a subsidy, then do it in southern VA. My thinking is mostly political as I am all for urbanization of rural shyt holes. But in reality, I am with you with regards to government infrastructure projects or just skill improvement for workers in those regions.

Where in Queens you at breh?

I'm looking at houses at the moment and considering renting out my condo - still weighing out the pros and cons myself.

at breh
Flushing/Bayside near Utopia pkwy...

IMO it makes no sense for me to sell but wifey wants out of NY and I don't have anybody local to look after the property from a maintenance standpoint...

One of my neighbors renting out his basement for $2500 a month...So if I keep it and rent out all three apartments that's 90k a year for me...

90k a year in rent and you're really debating that? even if you just clear 1/3 of that after management fees, maintenance, taxes and mortgage (if you have one), that's still a lot of money that could set you up in another locale. well what's the estimated value of the property if you sell it?

edit: and 90k is conservative because a basement can't be as good as your 3 right?

There's no debate, like I said it makes no sense for me to sell...Ideally I want to leave an apartment to my son and rent the othet two assuming he stays local for college...He still has two years of HS to go...

Wifey been on my ass about moving south for a few years now (she from NC)...That's my issue...

$1.3m is definitely not sweet enough to offload an earner like that. as for keeping the peace at home, you could own something pretty sweet down south with a $30k (even $20k) a year mortgage.

Why give shady companies any incentives to fleece the system & it's people , those cities will regret it in the long run

NYC's presentation to amazon should have been: here is a swath of land you can buy. and we promise more investments in our people so that homegrown talent will always be nearby; we promise additional investments in our public transportation infrastructure so that all city residents can get to their destination in a timely fashion and we promise to continue our strong investments in public safety to keep our city one of the safest in america. your subsidy is access to a great city you already know you want to be in, so cut the bullshyt.

same for NOVA..

Don’t sell. Get a property manager if it really comes down to needing someone on the ground to manage your property. Cutting them 5-10% of the rent is well worth it to have a piece of property in an area that will experience growth. 20 years from now when you truly want to cash out you’ll be set. DO NOT SELL

Exactly. I’m still flabbergasted NYC and NOVA took it up the ass for Amazon. They are not Detroit, Nashville, Jacksonville, St Louis, even Philly, places that need business to keep/bring talent into their regions.
