Why court Amazon when that money could be spent to create new companies? I don't live in Northern VA, but that area is one of the strongest economies in America. It would have made more sense to put it in Southern VA where this is all needed.

It is so short-sighted by these states and is Democratic Party civil war playing out in a real way.

Because NYC and places like it have a lot to offer, Bezo was planning to move there from the start regardless of these city tripping over themselves. If you are already wanted by somebody, you are in the driver's seat. Make your demands.

Exactly, there's no need to incentivize prime real estate. If Amazon won't take it without a discount, someone will be willing to pay full price and the money lost in subsidies could be flipped into other projects like improving infrastructure which will add value anyway.

Watched this last night. So Amazon:

1. Is bilking NY and VA with unpaid taxes
2. There is circumstantial evidence the entire competition was fake and they were moving to NY and VA the entire time
3. They got 230 + cities to reveal secret proprietary information about city plans on economic development they can use as an advantage over other retails competitors or sell to them for billions.
4. They are opening new satellite offices not headquarters. By definition headquarters can only be one place and they already have it in Seattle
