"With the loss of Breaking Bad and soon Mad Men, AMC is looking at a big hole in their schedule, one that shows like The Killing and Low Winter Sun haven't quite been able to fill. While they have the ratings juggernaut that is The Walking Dead, they still need something that will be a buzz show, that will get a ton of attention and make a cultural impact. They're betting that show will be Preacher.
Sources tell me that the network has ordered a pilot based on the classic Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. In the comic Jesse Custer is a small town preacher who is torn by booze and sin and who finds himself the vessel for a strange entity - the child of a mating between an angel and a demon. Filled with immense power, including The Word of God, which makes anyone do whatever he says, Jesse goes hunting for the Lord Almighty, who has abandoned creation. He aims to make him pay for leaving his children behind. Joining Jesse on his journey is his ex-girlfriend Tulip, who is now a hit woman, and a hundred year old Irish vampire named Cassidy. Along the way they battle secret religious commandoes, the retarded descendent of Christ, a guy who fukks meat and even each other.
The comic is profane and blasphemous, and if AMC takes it to series they're showing a commitment to upping the R-rated quality of what we've seen on The Walking Dead. It isn't so much that Preacher is hyper-violent - although it can be - but rather that it tackles hot-button religious issues with all the subtlety and grace of a loud wet fart in church.
Preacher has been out in the world of almost getting adapted for a while; it all started back in 1998 when Garth Ennis wrote a draft of a script and Kevin Smith tried to get Harvey Weinstein to make it. Along the way we've seen people like Rachel Talaly, DJ Caruso and Sam Mendes attached to direct. I don't know who is attached to the TV series, but I hear the names are big and impressive.
The sprawling, road trip nature of the comic lends itself to TV more than movies in my opinion. I think AMC will take the show right to the edge (if it goes to series), and I wouldn't be shocked to discover they shoot alternate, crazier versions for Netflix and home video. And of course going to series is the next big hump; this property has been floundering in adaptation for a lot of years, and there's no guarantee this version will get any farther than previous ones."

Please, please, PLEASE don't make this terrible.

This should only be allowed on a channel that can do whatever the hell they want and not shy away from the :whoo: :damn: parts of Preacher. Plus the shyt is too piff to not be handled with care.

I think it will get a series order. But I wish it was being done by HBO instead. I don't like what AMC has done to the Walking Dead. Plus they like to skimp on budgets. HBO should've got their hands on this, again. HBO had it originally years ago, but decided to move forward with TRUE BLOOD instead at the time.

True Blood was piff the first 3 seasons. And there was no show like that on at the time, so I understand the decision. But since HBO knows its ending, they should've done everything they could to get their hands back on the Preacher Series. It would've been the perfect replacement for True Blood.

they def need it imo..everything new after game of thrones has been underwhelming to say the least.(while showtime got homeland and masters of sex, netflix got Orange is the new black and house of cards, and FX got The Americans)

we'll see how true detective turns out though

True Detective is going to be sick. But it's only an anthology, so it's not really a series. HBO needs some new blood badly, because in the drama department all they have is Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. Netflix is about to pass them up with the series they are buying. And FX is right behind HBO.

AMC has some huge holes to fill, but buying Preacher is a good start.

HBO probably is waiting on Vince Gilligan's new show. Word is his new series is most likely going to HBO or Netflix. (His new series hasn't been announced yet, btw). But word is he has something cooking. And I'm not talking about Call Saul which isn't really his show.

I'm not buying for a second that this is getting made. Unless it's some ultra b*stardized version of it. shyt is entirely too raw for AMC. shyt would be controversial to air on HBO.

I can see AMC making it, because it has a huge hole in its lineup. All they have is the Walking Dead and Better Call Saul. Mad Men is ending. Breaking Bad is over. Low Winter Sun isn't getting renewed most likely. They need something big and attention grabbing.

They are going to have to cut a lot of things that happen in order to make this airable on TV.

Arseface (there is no way they can have him as he is in the comic)
So much of Herr Star.
The dude for nails meat.
The coke sniffing angels.

And that's such a small slice of the shyt that could NOT happen on AMC. I know they're cable, but they aren't HBO cable. They may get away with saying "shyt" once in awhile, but half of the stuff in the comic wouldn't even be shown on HBO, let alone AMC.

HBO has no boundaries. HBO would air Preacher unfiltered. Unfortunately, Preacher got bought by AMC. Still, I think AMC will make it. they will santize it, but I can see them making it. Plus, Seth Rogen is producing it supposedly.

As much as I actually look like Seth Rogen, and use that to my benefit (it works, don't ask me why), this does not instill in me a lot of faith that the project will be good.

never heard of the comic but it sounds interesting

Preacher was somewhat a spinoff from Constantine (Hellblazer)...which was also dope.

I said the same thing about TWD before it was copped by AMC and we all know how that turned out.
