There’s no mention of “black culture”, liking sports, or hip-hop in this article, which many posters like to use as a scapegoat when they disparage black children’s academic performance. :mjpls:

You have posters on here who pretend that every child except black children :mjpls: are ready for Harvard which we know is far from the truth.

The issue is low standards, an over reliance on smartphones, and moving away from reading in general.

i can only speak for where i live, but i get the sense its pretty similar around the country

in my area the GOP has pretty much destroyed public schools and they go around spreading bullshyt like saying kids are identifying as cats and using litterboxes at school (they had kitty litter as a bathroom solution in case the kids were locked in, like during a shooting for example) and dummies ran with that shyt hard. they actually got people thinking they hire trannies to teach the kids and read to them and shyt, its insane. not a single county in my state went for harris, but they swear up and down 'the libs' are turning our LOCAL schools into gay brothels. fukking retards!

my state went from #14 in education to #50 over the course of TWO republican state administrations. TWO.

Getting a kid interested in reading at an early age will benefit them as they get older.
this is so important. my mom wasnt the best mother, but she helped me learn to read early. parents should be teaching their kids that BEFORE they even enter school imo. you cant just rely on the school system to teach your kids everything

The article mentions something the Coli has discussed before: the success Mississippi has had by returning to phonics-based teaching. I'm baffled more states, specifically blue states, refuse to move in that direction.

I also think a major aspect here is that white people are no longer reading to their children. A major reason white reading levels have been high is simply because white parents read to their kids on average more than non-white parents. You can immediately tell when listening to a 3-4 year old talk. My girl sees a specialist who shares a lobby with a peds office. So whenever we're in the lobby chilling, we see the little kids everywhere. And few things pain me more than listening to 3-4 year old white children speaking clearly while most of the 3-4 year old black children are using one word sentences or grunting/yelling/crying. That shyt has everything to do with parental involvement, specifically reading. Children need to hear you pronouncing words. A lot.

Now we're in a dynamic where white parents aren't reading, black parents aren't reading...and the result are a bunch of kids who get tablets shoved in their face multiple times a day, who can't speak well and struggle to learn anything.

the problem exist in liberal cities/states as well.

the issue is cultural and lack of parenting.

I can almost guarantee Asian scores in the state youre speaking of are fine.

You worried bout the wrong things. These kids are failing reading and writing at a basic level. You want to play the blame game. The parent, the culture and the influence are all factors. Try to tell me that you can raise a kid who can't read and write in 2025 and not bear blame. It's absurd.

I'm not even sure why people have kids they are not willing to raise properly. And that includes education. It's not on the system solely. If your kid is illiterate without a learning disability you are a failed parent period. The culture doesn't prioritize education. Saying that isn't :mjpls:

Education is first an foremost a pursuit. The discipline and engagement plus practise needed to learn successfully is habit based, it's coming from the character enforced at home before they ever get to school. If a kid can apply themselves to being a good athlete they can do the same in education. The same culture of supporting athletics can be done in education. Practise = study. shyt not complicated. If they can run drills and play after-school they can study same way. The excuse used to be bad schools and expensive tutoring. The internet can fix all that if there is a KEEN INTEREST. Learning has never been more accessible yet the standards are dropping. So where is it all going wrong? Education isn't a priority in America.
