So our political power is was arguably peak then.

I agree with this. During this time as far as I know everything was booming. Citizens were making good money. Technology was growing again. No country would even think about testing our defenses.

We're just noticing the downfall now. The real down fall started years ago. We were just blind to certain issues that are coming to light now.
