    I wouldn't categorize Orishatukeh Faduma as "Guyanese."

    Nationless people like that really are everything at once (AA, Island, Caribbean) and nothing.

    Thats why the conversation about identity formation is important.

    @Claudex isso e verdade ? :picard:

    Repped @IllmaticDelta for coming through with more concise information.

    So in order to be classified as AA you need lineage that experienced Jim Crow

    thus if your bloodline didn't go through Reconstruction .... basically #HYON

    I mean, it's why we're naturally very wary of light skinned black people over here. :manny: Yet colorism is still very much a thing, even though people front.
    They talk like the portuguese, feel like they're portuguese and often discriminate like the portuguese. But it's all very low key, I have yet to hear of anyone who OD'd on it. It's a very insidious job.

    This is a very nuanced conversation.

    And unpleasant...for all parties involved and even those uninvolved. Yet, it's a convo that must be had sometime.

    It's not unpleasant.

    What I meant by nuanced is that in West Africa Creole doesn't mean the same thing it does in Black America.

    I dunno. Isn't one of his parents Afram, as in DoS from the South? If so, then he's Afram.

    This. Creole has a very different meaning and independent history in West Africa with little influence from Black America. Hell, each country has their own dialect(though a lot of it can be understood between certain countries to some extent)

    I consider the ones who didn't live to see/go through reconstruction and jim crow as early stage aframs who were more scattered/varied in their experiences and cultures. The modern Afram is when all of those experiences and regional cultures came together as one which was heavily influenced by the jim crow era.

    That’s not what I said. Why are you including little influence from black America? They’re two different meanings.
