Wow. I wonder if this happens elsewhere in the world. Looking from afar I definitely think it's concerning. As in, I don't ever want my country to be like that. People flocking together for politics on such a large scale can't be a good trend. Pretty soon it would get a lot worse than that. It's the sort of thing that could lead to secession movements, to federations and unions crumbling apart, and to civil wars.
And woe unto those who end up on the wrong side of the fence at the wrong time. It reminds me of the partitions of Punjab and Bengal in 1947, at the end of the British Raj. People had to move from one side of the fence to another because they suddenly found themselves in the wrong country, in the country where it was going to be very difficult for them due to their religion and their politics not aligning with the state. And millions were killed in the violence of the population transfer.
That is of course an extreme case. But if this American trend continues then that scenario is a possibility for how things will end up
