we define economic growth by the value of stuff
which is not the same as the volume of stuff
So there's no one to one link between economic growth and consumption of resources

Yeah, if I'm tracking I'm aware that the top 10% and circular financing are propping up the economy. The problem then becomes are we properly distributing those resources and productivity.

Spitballing numbers, an $800 phone being replaced every 2 years by 70% of the population and a $1600 phone being replaced by 35% of the population every 2 years results in the same gross revenue, and probably greater net revenue because manufacturing and distribution costs are less because less units are being sold, so you don't have those costs.

The dirty little secret is, the tech in those phones is not advancing at the rate that it previously was because there's less demand and less competition to drive that innovation.

It's part of the fundamental problem if we evolve to a technofeudalist society. Nothing moves. The same players keep shuffling the same dollars around and the masses have to deal any gridlock and tantrums that come with that.

Companies shouldn't be around forever if they aren't producing value. The company needs to evolve. If it doesn't, it should close it's doors.

“You guys aren’t buying/replacing our $1200 phones fast enough anymore!!!”:birdman:

Man, why do I need a new model phone every two years? Most of the technology isn’t that far advanced. I’m basically just replacing the cameras lol, I don’t even take a bunch of pics like that :heh:

Phones have hit a wall in terms of innovation.
Outside of minor upgrades what is the point of getting a new phone in a year?

Yep. There was a time when an upgrade was compelling because of the innovation from one version to the next.

But at this point, what can I do with the newest iPhone, that I can’t do with my iPhone 12 that I purchased in 2020?

I been on that shlt since fixing the button on the 2600 controller.

My cell phone has to actually stop working before I replace it.

planned obsolescence is a thing since phones became more than calls and text/2 ways.

You kinda have to move in before you are ready unless you just talk and text.

If it was super cheap.
to setup my elite xiii.
I would still be using my elite xiii.

It just is three times cheaper.
to setup my phone on mint and buy my new droid phone outright used. .

Droid and apple suck at phones and I am glad Y'all stop giving them money for the woat.

Didn’t read anything after this part:

The average American now holds onto their smartphone for 29 months, according to a recent survey by Reviews.org, and that cycle is getting longer. The average was around 22 months in 2016.

In 2016 they were still giving out 2 year plans on phones. Nw the plan is 3 years standard. :camby:

Unnecessary upgrades lining the pockets of these companies.

29 months for a technical device is new age stuff, if this was the 80s youd keep it a decade at the least.
