Like somebody else said, she would’ve sounded better had she actually been singing the entire duration of her career. You can tell she went on a lengthy hiatus. She was never some very strong singer vocally, she was in that light Ciara/Ashanti category, but to say she was horrific is pretty silly.

She got better as a singer after her debut. In Love and War got some solid vocal work by her. And leagues beyond Ashanti IDK how she even made it.

Amerie had great energy and looked amazing

It was fun hearing some of the songs that made the soundtrack for the early 2000s

Her first two albums are classic. Think a little too much is made of lack of vocal ability she may not be the greatest of vocalists but she's more than decent and sounded good on her albums. At the end of the day that's what counts. Plenty of better singers get forgotten because they couldn't make the classic material that she made.

I thought it was the band at first when I saw "Why Don't We..." clip on Twitter because it didn't sound great but it wasn't bad either. Then I saw 1 Thing, and it's her. "Why Don't We Fall in Love" is a tough song to sing especially if you don't have to vocal range for it and unfortunately, Amerie is limited.

Still looks amazing at 45 though.

LOVE amerie. good voice, can dance, fine as hell and no hair hat. why she wasn't a superstar I'll never understand cuz I find her far more palatable than beyonce has ever been.

She wasn't a superstar because she never had follow-up singles that were never as strong as the lead singles. You're not going to be a superstar without multiple hits.

These comments are pretty privilege at work. Y'all know she sounded terrible in parts, even if you're grading her on a curve, but because she's gorgeous and is aging like wine, y'all are taking it easy on her. Granted, I think some folks are being more than a little extra, as I'm not expecting an elite singing performance from Amerie. That said, her voice just straight up giving out during "1 Thing" made me feel bad for her.

She hasn't been signing consistently and her voice sounded strained.
